Triumph hits new sales high

Triumph strengthed its already dominating postion in the over 500cc UK motorcycle market in March 2011 when the Hinckley factory recorded its best ever sales month in 20 years of production.

Such was the strength of its performance that Triumph went into second place behind Honda in the month's overall motorcycle registrations table.

Whilst Triumph is still a long way behind the mighty Honda, it has been helped by strong demand for its two Tiger 800 adventure models. Triumph's network of 55 dealers registered 1,422 new bikes, an increase over March 2010 by 15%. The overall over-500cc market has decreased by 18% to 7,535 units compared to March 2010, which means Triumph has increased their market share to 19%.

The record March sales performance brings Triumph's first quarter sales to 1,913; up 24% on last year against an over-500cc market decline of 11% to 10,470 units.

Bruno Tagliaferri, Triumph UK sales manager, says demend for the Tiger 800 and Tiger XC has been consistently strong since they were launched with a high percentage of sales including £1,000+ of accessories. Despite the success of the Tigers, the unfaired Speed Triple remains Triumph's top seller. But, given the increasing strength of the adventure sports market, the expected 1800 sales of new Tigers this year will push it into their top seller next year.
