Thatcher, like Churchill, always looked across the sea to America - going by history, she never trusted the Europeans, their weakness or motives.

Like her or don't like her, the point is she would not be taking any of the s!$%e from the EU this leader takes IMHO. They also wouldn't be trying it on half as much knowing it would get them nowhere but a bloody nose rather than a polite apology and the offer of another billion or two of UK's cash at every turn.

Thatcher was not a likeable person but she would not have put up with snivelling little c!$%s like Vershofstad, Junker, Tusk, Barnier, Schultz etc etc.

Trump is worse, at least Thatch played the game, whatever that is. That loon over there is just mad.

End of the day, it's all posturing and it's all under the ultimate control of the TEc giants. They're the new global administrators IMO

Wow, where's Stalin? - killed, low estimate, 25 - 30,000,000 of his own people, some say as many as 50,000,000+. Dislike Thatcher by all means, but comparing her with the Hitler's of this world, and the like, cannot be taken seriously.

Actually the unions are as corrupt as the poliiticians... there was one union head on a 6 figure wage living in a council house... most of the union conferences are just glorified piss ups... having been a SOGAT Father of The Chapel, I have been in a good position to observe the waste of members funds... that was back in the 80/90's now its done on a grander scale... holidays jolly ups to the bahamas as "fact finding missions" cheauffer driven cars first class travel... bastids

And you wonder why yer subs go up every year:angry:

We can only hope it is soon (and that his missus is with him when he plummets off that cliff) I can only think k of one good thing to come out of his time in office and that didn't go far enough

"Vision without execution is just hallucination" said Thomas Edision, and the only nice thing I can say about Thatcher is that she had the drive to execute her vision, unlike today's politicians.

However, IMO her vision was driven by a vicious ideology which ultimately proved poisonous and diversive to the UK and anybody who thinks her actions proved beneficial to the UK in the long term is wrong (IMO).

She may have 'smashed' the unions, but through her deliberate and ideologically driven actions she handed control of our economy to the banks and big business interests, and vindictively pursued policies which lead to a deindustrialisation of great swathes of the North of England while transferring wealth to the South East, she ushered in the privatisation of our public services and sold 'the family silver' off cheap, and the 'private sector good, public sector bad ' mantra began with her. Her actions contributed to the banking crash of 2008 and the massive inequality we now see in our country.

The mess we're in now, and I'm not just talking about Brexit, has many of it's seeds sown by Thatcher, yes subsequent governments have their own f!$%-ups to be held accountable for, but I truly believe that her actions, more than any other PM in recent history, have had a disastrous effect on our politics, economy and society as a whole.

Still, at least she smashed the unions.

I'm not disputing that, what I'm saying is that Thatcher set the ball rolling and made it OK to privatise stuff we already owned, transferring the wealth from public ownership into the hands of relatively few private individuals.

Subsequent PM's (Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron and May) have continued to pursue such policies at a cost to us all, PFI contracts, underperforming rail franchises, G4S, Serco, Carillon etc etc have cost UK taxpayers £millions, if not £billions, while management and shareholders reap the benefits, leaving the taxpayer to pick up the bill when their mismanagement and greed f!$%s everything up.

A lot of folks seem to forget also, that it was Harold Wilson and the Power Cut era that promulgated the idea of shutting down the pits and curbing the unions powers.... Maggie just carried out Wilson's vision....
