after 6 months of lazing about, drinking beer, riding the bike across France, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain & Portugal I have just been informed I start my new job on the 2nd January.

Oh well, back to the real world I suppose but the £££ going into the bank will be much appreciated .

It might sound OK Rob but it was quite stressful and after years of having spending money in my pocket it was a pain watching the pennies every day. With no mortgage I still need £1,700 pound per month to pay for all the bills including car service and tax etc.

I would hate to be a private tenant paying £1000 pound a month in rent coming up to retirement age, how are they going to afford that on top of the normal costs of living?. Staying in full time work until they die I guess :sad::sad:

I was like that when I got made redundant when I finally got a job after 6 months off I was down to my last 500 quid in the bank by time I got paid.

Bad enough this year being off sick for 6 months with my back issue lol.

And nige I feel for you when I bought my last house is was a grand a month interest only lol.

I physically cannot afford to buy another now not that I want to my rent is 400 quid a month lol

Sorry to hear you got the chop Rob.
As you know I went through in in 2010.
Best thing that ever happened to me:lol:

Treat it as an opportunity

I'm actually looking around myself.
I want to be back in the midlands(ish) as the £1K/month in rent and bills down south is killing me, but I still cant afford to re-locate there:sad:

PM me privately with what you are looking for as I know lots of people in the same industry (Automotive right?)

I feel for anyone with a mortgage these days..... i had one once, when I was a bit of a lad..... the cost of living is bad enough without the extra £150 a month.....

I don’t know how my kids will manage without the “bank of dad” to fall back on (every month )

It's 15 years since I've been in the auto trade, tho funnily enough I'm following a lead that might see me back there. Won't know for a while.

Yep - its amazing what can be done - when I first took voluntary redundancy in 2002, I had 6 months to wait for my Company Pension .... I went thru all my bills and subs etc & made swingeing cuts - plus I queried everything - at one time I was getting £25-50 PM 'COMPENSATION' payments from the Utilities, Ins Co's & Nat-f!$%ing-West when complaints were realised !

The only thing we cut back on was Booze and going out for meals unless we were on holiday. Looking back at some of our old bank statements it was in the 2-4 hundred pounds some months so we just stayed in, watched TV for six months and slowly died a slow lingering boring death as we saved money..

The prospect of having no income, certainly focuses the mind.
I've got a minimum 10 weeks money, post redundancy, overseeing the sale of the factory and contents, which is a handy buffer

The bike's less than 2 year old, so I "shouldn't" be tempted to blow the redundany on a new one03

Sounds like you have a plan Rob which is great.

Just remember to start applying for jobs at least 10 weeks in advance of your last working day. The job I just got took me 10 weeks from my first contact with the agency to the job offer. Another one took 12 weeks from first agency contact through to telephone interview, 1st interview, 2nd presentation interview, 3rd interview to finally be told I came second!.

And remember, all Agencies are c!$%s!
