Date, TBA, but more than likely May again possibly before the second Bank Holiday to get the extra day off to rest, Saturday to Sunday to give a more relaxed week.

Day 1. Chunnel to Dinant area, Belgium. 190 miles, Mainly Motorway
Day 2. Dinant to Maginot line forts at Villy-La-Ferte (Only open on Sundays) 100 miles. Run down the Meuse as it's a cracking road to Verdun if there is time.
Day 3. Dinant to Fumay and Chimay as there are some wee breweries that do visits. Possibly Rocroi again if we have time. 100 miles
Day4. Dinant to Hofheim Am Taunus. 220 miles. Waldgeist?
Day 5. Hofheim to wherever, just a relaxing day. Waldgeist?
Day 6. Hofheim to Malmedy area. 150 miles.
Day 7. Malmedy to Dreilandpunt, the point where the 3 countries meet with a wee theme park, 80 miles
Day 8. Malmedy to Ieper, 170 miles, traditional last night stop.
Day 9. Return to UK early.

These are all provisional depending upon whether I can find Hotels (only looked at Dinant so far) and numbers.
I am going to book 8 rooms as soon as we can get dates down and then it's first come, first served.

At times you have to do what is logical, not go out and buy £1000 pushbikes just before you go on a trip for example

Excellent.
Shall we go for May 18th-26th? Or 25th to 2nd June?

The same sort who spends £11k (or 12) on a Tiger that's slower than the 1050:blush: But it was a bargain at £560.00 so couldn't be turned down.

So far that's

I'll get into trouble (again) if I'm away for half term, but as I haven't got a clue when the school holidays are that isn't much help.

I'm definitely interested although i wont commit until i know for certain whether i can make it. Family health issues being the reason.

By when would you be needing some certainty?

I would love to say i can join you lads, missing out on this year was a complete bummer but I can't be completely sure if I can save enough up in time, especially as my wife's place of work has now been officially notified of closure and my workshops is looking decidedly dodgy ground as to whether I will actually have a job next year

If there is a space next year and I happen to have funds available then I'll see where you lot stand then, like Tim says no point messing you chaos about.

Probably just the one night and a chill at the hotel, could be either night as it's a long way to go just for one night..........................or maybe not, we've done it before:lol:
Unless we miss it out of course?

Not really, it was just a thought and you've just confirmed what I was thinking really. Scrub the idea as the Ardennes are a good base.
I shall go back to the drawing board to look for places to go and stay in the meanwhile. First hotel has plenty of rooms, so I shall book them shortly for the first dates as above and maybe an extra day as there is plenty to do and see.

Hotel found with 10 rooms for 4 nights so that gives 3 days of trips out and playing around nearby as the river has kayaks nearby, which sounds a hoot:evil:
http://www.booking.com/hotel/be/auberge-...

Now to find another location, probably near the Somme area for the remaining 3 nights and back to Blighty on the Saturday or perhaps Sunday

I'm looking at some decent roads to play on.

Cutting it down to 8 again. 10 is just toooooo much hassle and takes me far too long on the internet, emails and phone (sometimes I do have to ring and it's hard to talk another language when not face to face)

IT'S BOOKED.
5 nights. Sat 18th to Thurs 23rd.

Now for Hotel number 2 for the remaining 2 or 3 nights.

The weight I put on the other week neither will I  We'll get you a big double width canoe. And it looks as if you can hire bikes nearby as well. I can see an even bigger giggle next year :lol::lol:

Just had a thought of somewhere we said we would return to.
The V1 and V2 launch sites near St Omer.

Would be nice to do the V1 & V2 sites. Last time we went there we didn't have time for the tour.

Ilike the idea of a long stay at one hotel. Can take as much gear as the bike will carry & then just dump it in the room. Mesh gear & wet gear will be going on this one.

Vengeance weapon sites it is then. I have found rooms in Ieper, so that can be a traditional finish for the last 3 nights and then a short run to the chunnel.

I have also e-mailed Philip at the Old Tom to see if he has rooms as well.

I doubt it will be secure, but Ieper always seems fine to stay in and the road is quiet. Looks like there is some pavement space available and I shall carry on looking in the meantime for suitable establishments.

Just had an email from the first hotel as the prices will be going up to €75 for a single and €85 for a double:sad::frown:. They also ask if we will be eating at the hotel each night.
Shall I say yes?

Ouch, €300 for 4 nights? That's a bit much TBH, could be in a "mainstream" hotel for little more. Greed, that's all it is.
Try telling them if they hold this years prices we will book, if not, foxtrot oscar!

Germany has cheap hotels, Belgium always seems to be expensive, but I have told them accordingly, unless the €75 includes brekkers and an evening meal.

I shall carry on looking.

We stayed at the auberge 2 nights last year - overpriced chalets style rooms unless in main building - plumbing v basic! - food mainly acceptable but nothing special - best bit is the location is outstanding - Bastogne & northern Luxembourg close and some of the best roads ever there - loads of Michelin green routes all around

Depends on where I can find hotels at the right price.
I have cancelled the Dinant hotel as they say it is compulsory to eat there. I even told them we would spend a lot in the bar but they wouldn't budge on price either. So they can ferk right off.
Back to the drawing board as I begrudge paying more than 60-65 Euros a night.
There's an Ibis nearby, I'll try that in the morning.
