Once the sprag clutch begins to make cracking noises it's toast. How many starts before it just freewheels is anyone's guess. As already stated bump starting is your only option unless you can ride in company with a racer returning home who has one of those rear wheel roller drive jobs.

If it's very early T300 series with the access plate on top of the crankcase don't bother trying to fix it through there. The potential for grief is too great. Just pull the motor and split the cases.
