To close this, hopefully, the fuel tap repair kit from Sprint went in easily enough and seems to be working and sealing ok. Reason it had failed was the vacuum connection was completely blocked and the diaphragm piston was seized in the open position.

Decided while the tank was off to throw three new plugs in and tighten up all the connectors. Popped one of the snorkels off and had a quick look at the air filter. It's the original foam one, doesn't look too filthy, so it can stay there for a while.

Bike is all back together, been a couple of miles up the road, everything seems to be working well. May be slightly smoother and more responsive than before, but certainly working fine for now.

Except possibly the fan... can't remember ever hearing it come on. :frown:
