Daytona 955i (99-01)

23 Jun 2017 13:12
Very useful thread!

I've currently got the head off my Daytona 955 as a leakdown test showed poor inlet valves on no. 3 cyl. Whilst it's off I'm taking the opportunity to match the TBs to the head, as we know, the stock fit is pretty awful.

Mine has the earlier Sagem FI system, so there's no step in the TB bores, but they've needed quite a bit of work to align them with the ports on the head. I've even had to machine away some of the body adjacent to the top mounting flange and ream out the mounting holes so that the TBs could be positioned where they fitted 'best'.
I ditched the locating dowels a few years ago when I had to replace the TB gasket, and managed to at least get them in the same post code as the head ports(!), but it was still pretty diabolical.
I'm pretty happy with the TB fit now, and I've cleaned up the inlet and exhaust ports in the head to smooth out the machining steps from the valve inserts.

2 new inlet valves required (only one of them on no.3!!), all valves lapped in and I'm ready to start re-assembly. I'll report back when it's running again.

Can anyone recommend a good dyno shop in North Lincs/East Yorks area?
