Tickover should be 1000rpm +/- 50rpm.

Set it with the engine well up to temperature - Haynes recommends 10-15 minutes running time i.e. after a short ride. I will agree with this as there can be a difference after a short ride if the tickover has been adjusted with the engine not FULLY warmed up - don't ask!:blush: Also, blip the throttle a couple of times each time you alter the setting.

Apparently a lumpy tickover means that the fuel/air mixture is incorrect. However, I don't think you'll ever get a smooth idle with one of these bikes. Mine is never smooth and never has been, although there are (obviously) various degrees of lumpiness! My car idles smoothly, my bike doesn't.:frown:
