Triumph Tiger 800 and 800XC launched

Triumph’s new Tiger 800 and Tiger 800XC have today been unveiled to an expectant crowd at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Nicknamed the Baby Tiger, the latest model from Triumph is obviously being aimed squarely at BMW's and KTM's strangle hold on the adventure market.

The Tiger 800 is a road going version of the model with a tough steel frame sporting a 10-spoke 19" front wheel and 17" rear. The XC is a more off road orientated model with 36-spoke 21" front and 17" rear. Both models share common cycle components with it weighing in at a wet, ready to ride 210kg.

Both models have an adjustable seat height 2 settings available as standard: 810mm and 830mm. An optional accessory reduces this further to 790mm. Triumph also realise that gadgets such as Satnav feature heavily in the adventurists arsenal; therefore both models also sport powerful 550W electrical systems.

The Tiger 800 accessory catalogue shows the usual array of accessories from Triumph including Arrow exhausts systems, heated grips and adjustable screens. The Tiger 800XC, on the other hand, also includes full hard luggage in true Charlie and Ewan style. Another first for Triumph on the Tiger 800XC is the switchable ABS, enabling you to elect when you do and don't want the benefit anti-lock braking.

The big news in this new release from Triumph is the engine. This is an all new 799cc long-stroke liquid cooled 12 valve inline triple putting out an impressive (claimed) 79Nm at 7850rpm and 95bhp at 9300rpm. No dyno curves are available at present, but if its anything like Triumph usual offerings we will see a big fat level torque curve giving us all day rideability.

Full details can be found on Triumph's Adventure site. The model does not yet feature in Triumph's Create My Triumph.
