....they have seriously lost the plot; what effing planet are they on?

I can see raising the tax free allowance, but ffs that is a total farce.

Household goods and services: Childcare: £147.85, beds and bedding: £3.29, garden equipment: £0.66

Food and drink: Meat £18.08, vegetables: £11.27, snacks: £3.65

Social and cultural: Parent social activities: £30.00, UK holiday: £18.52, birthday gifts: £8.42

Transport: Car: £60.25, public transport: £12.38, Cycling: £1.40

What a crock of s!$%.
I wish we earned that much between us for starters.

People need to get priorities right for starters. The first thing toi cut is mobile phones, then pay to view TV.

It's either bollox, or interesting as a modern day perspective. As TT says, more on social/culture than grub? 30 The weekly figure for childcare?

Absolutely Fret :thumbup: The next round of cutbacks at Deadloud towers are being discussed at the moment ... our phone contracts won't be renewed this next time around, and the Sky TV account is looking dubious now I've got Netflix on the xbox. That lot alone would save me £120.00 a month. I reckon I can live without a mobile phone no problem as long as I keep the internet.

I'm looking at cutbacks as well if we're to move house next year.
TBH, there's not a lot to "shave" so I may well get rid of some toys, maybe a watch or three  and start an E Bay junk clearance sale before Christmas.

I'd be happy to be on a £36k base salary as well

I don't think my wife and me have ever had £685 a week coming in. With my wife seriously ill and me as carer we have about 1/3 of that and rent of £103.85 per week, I reckon we're f*****:angry::angry:

It's clearly bollocks, but it may well be the priorities that a lot of people put on their life style.

Also bear in mind the the Joseph Rowntree Foundation is so left-wing that even my Mrs. (Who is a little to the left of Marx) baulked at having funding from them when she ran a charity. (Which was subsequently f!$%ed royally by Cameron when he gave their funding to his corrupt c!$% mate Harrison (A4E))

I go out .... to work. End of. Otherwise the financial reality is that me and the missus stay in. Nights out were part of the 2009 cutbacks here.

Well I can tell you with some certainty that my staff earn considerably less than that.

I'd have to get Old Scrotum to check with Mrs Bellows (who does the household accounts) but if any of the parlour-maids or under-gardeners earn more than a few shillings a week there will be trouble !

I take it when they are talking of £36k. income they are talking before tax?

Because about 35% can be wiped straight off it which leaves £23400 which isn't that much to support a couple and two children given how many things are going up in price.

The 36k is 2x18k:
Quote:
A couple with two children were said to need to earn a minimum of £18,400 a year each before tax; single people £16,400 a year, while the figure for lone parent with one child is £23,900 and a pensioner couple £12,000 each.

Doesn't mention a couple with two children with one worker. I suspect that would be <36k due to less childcare costs.

Why do people get worked up by things like this, seriously ? Some foundation says blah blah blah, who cares really ? When we were in Australia we were always told that the 'average' family earned something like $100,000 a year, yeah right LOL. Even funnier was when they said it cost $20,000 a year to bring up one child. Just read them, have a laugh and move on.

i like your thinking.i dont have alot of spare money but we get by,i personally live extremely tightly and spend very little day to day and i have a minimum amount which i dont let my savings fall below so that i cane cope with any emergencies.i dont have much disposable income compared to most people i know, but i think i have a reasonable life:thumbup: it wouldnt suit many but i have to make choices and i choose to hardly ever have a drink,we rarely go out to eat,i make lunch and take it to work each day to avoid wasting money(and to eat better!) but i do have a motorbike which i love riding and the misses
also enjoys going pillion so doesnt get completely left out:blush: ive recently taken up windsurfing(£22 for the lot:lol:)as a cheaper hobby alongside the bike and generally once a month i go to watch palace(ok sometimes the last bit is torture)but all in all not a bad life.of course i have bad days when i dont feel so positive(occasionally weeks on end:blush:) but generally i could earn alot more, have a busier social life etc, loads of beer etc and be alot more miserable than i am now:thumbup:

Life's too short to care about bollocks like this. All this does is distract attention away from that tiny percentage that are really in need of help and simply increases the number of people that the left would like to class as 'poor'
