The Dutch Porridgewog: Just a thought, how can you be a moderator on a TRIUMPH forum, if you don't own one......
Arguably the best sort of moderator would be someone with absolutely no connection to bikes at all, and not actually allowed to post on the forum in general. Complete impartiality
Does that mean if you get made a moderator, you'll stop posting?

I am barred from being a mod on account of being a gobby cnut who says what he thinks whether on t'internet or in person Although in person my dazzling personality and shining wit ensure 'tis always delivered with a smile and charm.
At least I'd be consistentMedia File If I was up for it, which I'm not, at least people would know where the bar is rather that trying to judge something that changes with the wind.
I'm not certain that we need any more moderation. The site, bar a few "incidents" has generally managed to self-regulate quite sucessfully for a number of years now. Would having more mods have made any difference to the recent "spat"? I don't know, but I'm not 100% sure it's worth finding out if it changes the character of TT.com.
If Harry and Homer think its worth trying then just get on with it and approach whomever you think suitable.
I guess I'll get "Pink Wanded" for that now But I'm a firm believer in "If it's not bust - don't fix it!", we just need to be careful on the definition of "BUST".

Keep calm and carry on!
I agree that what you state is the case for many parts of the site, however, I believe that the Marketplace needs more moderation, more people to flag innapropriate or NWS material are also required.
I think the large number of people putting themselves forward is to try and be more active after some of the spats in the last few months. If the modding is being done by Aitch and Homer alone on the busiest forum(The Arms) then they need a few others.
I don`t want to be a Moderator per se, I just don`t want this site to become a free for all bitch fest, and i am prepared to put something back into the site after ten years of membership
Am I qualified?? of course not Will i make a hash of it? probobly Are ther people better suited?? Yes
I rarely get involved in these arguments because ,frankly, i can`t be arsed. typing insults is pointless and if anyone want to prove they have a bigger mind/wallet/morgage or dick than me can go right ahead, i`ll never play that game on a forum.Whats the point?
anyway I`ve put my name forward, i thought my thread had been missed under the weight of all the other comments and i`d begun to think i`d got away with it not being noticed.......then the foilster seconded me....
bugger
i`ll have to see it through now, luckily there are better candidates....

but on the marketplace the spurious comments and heckling are actually a form of help as they often bump a thread back to top and people usually just read the ad and don't mire themselves overly with the ensuing slapfight.
a little more self moderation is needed .... direct insult and slagging one and other off on some poor sods problem solving thread is unacceptable ....... my being called a twat on a problem solving thread should've been met with the moral high ground of "save it for the arms" and flagged to a mod, simple as ...... but that was back when I was less considerate .....
In effect all of us are deputy mods as we all have the ability to flag inappropriate behaviour to the shirriff.
Forums need to be moderated consistently. WRT the Market Place there either is banter or there isn't.....at the moment it seems too open to interpretation or based on someone having a hissy fit because someone else points out that their old tat, often described with gushing hyperbole, isn't worth what they deludedly think it is.
Personally I think if people want to post their s!$% for sale on the site they should expect a ribbing and not start whinging about "sabotage" when it unsurprisingly doesn't sell - if they don't like it just post it on ebay and STFU Failing that just have "read only" threads (a bit like a locked thread) and interested parties can email the seller to find out more about their overpriced old s!$%
As for more recent spats....couldn't give a rat's arse Battle of the egos IMHO and I'm not remotely interested in who can piss the highest up the wall or who chooses to flounce off in a big girly huff.
My response to people that cry over other people having a dig at each other is the same as I shout at the telly whenever some whinging cnut complains about something they didn't like......if you don't like it, turn it off or change channel.
Maybe an alternative(or addition to) new Mods,,a simple "please dont post political stuff" request,,not rule as such,,just a request,in the interest of harmony etc,,,if everyone else plays along,,I will happily.
Just a thought,,I also think the present Mods are fine,,not too sure theres a need for anymore,,but then again,,,ive not been a member for 200 years or made 46 thousand posts.
As one of the daft spatters. (yeah I know stupid etcetc ) I have to say I'm not convinced we need more moderators. I mean after wearing a flouncy skirt for a week I'm back without a political hat (it is in the cupboard though just incase) in me trousers again , and don't think that adding mods would have changed a thing. The other place has too much moderation. And the Moderation there has been far from impartial in the past. At times its more like the moderators private club than a public forum though its been better of late. Here most of these things seem to resolve themselves after a bit. We're all fairly grown up though not always!
The only thing I'd change is maybe do without the direct insults though?
