Having just rebuilt my rear suspension with new swingarm bearings, and re-greased and fitted new seals to all the other drop/drag link bearings that were replaced last service, I was thinking it might be a better idea to fix the bottom of the shock, and have all the rising rate gubbins at the top end, out of the dirt/salt spray coming off the back wheel. Something like; Media File Media File as done by Ducati.

Would that be a Ducati

Rather than redesigning the whole suspension, a well designed guard or 2 would keep most most of the s!$%e off, something that seems bleeding obvious to everyone but Triumph.

And just about every other manufacturer in fairness. Did I mention the MTS has a standard fit hugger?

My Sprint has a hugger.......I had to modify the swinging arm (by drilling 3 holes into it) to take the one off a Speed Triple.

But if it were standard then how would the manufacturers charge you £120.00 for a £3.00 piece of extruded plastic?

It fits really nicely, the SSA is basically the same as the S/Triple but they don't drill and tap the fixing holes.

Well at least that's one thing they got right on the Tiger 1050 - they fitted a hugger as standard! I can sort of understand why they don't fit one on the Explorer because it doesn't really go with the traillie look of the bike but in that case Triumph should have at least provided something like a flap or other guard to keep the crap off the shock etc. IIRC the Explorer looks as though it has areas on the swing-arm that look as though they were for drilling but it would take a brave/foolish man to do it without knowing for certain as could lead to fracturing? On the Explorer site I see that the aftermarket boys are having to come up with all sorts of weird brackets to mount their huggers and one guy has "glued" a hugger on. Sorry, I know I shouldn't be commenting on Explorer topics as I don't own one or have even had a test ride on one so please consider as worthless.

OK, consider it done Powerbronze have designed one http://www.powerbronze.co.uk/7616057/818... It also needs one to stop rooster tailing & keep pillions/top boxes clean

I like that. I bet it's better than the stock 1050 as well.

Indeed, just like the MTS & GS have. Mine also has two wheels, just like the MTS & GS have. & an engine, frame, lights etc. No doubt those ideads have been copied from them too

Thankfully Triumph glued on another cylinder so as not to get done under copyright laws.
