Our Olympus C-50 5MP is now about eight years old. It's been really good but now the lens cover / slide bit is faulty. Anyway, think I should get a new camera ahead of the new baby's arrival. Got a maximum of £150 to spend and would prefer not to have to use a proprietary battery (replacing the Olympus' charger cost nearly as much as the bloody camera). Thanks.

How you planning on using the camera? Before people snigger and say take pictures... I know.... But if it's going to be used mainly indoors / dry places not get bumped around. Then go with whatever produces the best results. If it's going to be used everywhere then there's a ton of waterproof / shock resistant point and shoots about now that will be better than your old camera for that sort of money. I've got an old pentax optio wp. Which is pretty ancient now but still firing well even under water. Yup there were better ones at the time (none waterproof). But's its been everywhere with us and it takes trips into the sea / pool /spills / sand and any kind of crap in it's stride. Just my 2p worth anyrode.

As recommended by my Pro Photographer wife. She uses one. Uses Double AAs We use Ansman Re Chargeables. (Nikon D90 is her main camera) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-PowerShot-... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41...

Sounds good thanks. The Lumix sounded good too but I really want to avoid proprietary batteries this time. Under budget too.

The Fuji Finepix range are good. I have an S1500 bridge camera and love it.

Aye, doesn't stop being a capable camera, just 'cos it's obsolete.

Very true. A camera is a tool, nothing more. Like any tool, a good one makes the job easier, but doesn't make the user any better.

Ooh the Finepix. Which one? I had a S5000 before I killed it after many years service. If you look hard enough you can get one for about £50. Would be second hand though.
