spencerd1972 London, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 75 Daytona 955i (02) 19 Apr 2012 19:41 The handbook for my 03 Daytona says that I need a semi or fully synth oil with a viscosity range of 15W-40.
It goes on to specifically recommend Mobile Racing 4T 15W-40. However, I can't find anywhere that supplies this oil, but you can get Mobil Racing 4T 15W-50. In fact, fully synthetic 15W-40 is quite difficult to find. You can get Castrol Magnatec, but this is only semi synth. I wonder what Triumph dealers use / sell these days? Has anyone had a look recently? Cheers all.

Halfords do a good range of oils I've always put Mobil 1 4T Racing in my Trumpys. Never had an issue getting it either come to think of it

castrol magnatec is a good alternative, I was brought up on GTX so I may be biassed. TBH, there is a lot of bulls!$% surrounding oil. 15-40 / 10-50, In the UK either will be fine. 0 - 5 weight would be better of course

spencerd1972 London, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 75 Daytona 955i (02) 19 Apr 2012 21:07 Thanks all. I was thinking that maybe 15w-40 had been 'superceded' by 15w-50. I'll have another look at Opie. Cheers.

Tater Dont Mess With Texas, USA Premier Member Posts: 2,947 Daytona T595 20 Apr 2012 03:12 I use Rotella Fully Synth 10/40 in my 595 and have not had an issue with it to date. been using that oil now for about 3 yrs or so.
spencerd1972 London, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 75 Daytona 955i (02) 20 Apr 2012 13:05 Just phoned Jack Lillies. They sell Castrol Power 1 10W-40 fully synth, which is apparently what Triumph recommend for these bike now. Their price is £41.
So it seems that for some reason 15W-40 has been dropped..

lord stuart derbyshire, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 22,671 Daytona 955i (99-01) 20 Apr 2012 18:14 i used to use silkolene... worked fine,, never had problems.. then changed to mobil1 fully synthetic,, in my daytona with only 4000 miles on the clock.. the clutch started slipping,, even with heavy duty race clutch springs in.. and the gearbox developed a extra nuetral between 3rd and 4th.. and gearbox felt clunky.. oh and started leaking from seals.. just a tiny weep..
i changed it back to silkolene super four semi synth,, after a while.. clutch stopped slipping,, leaks stopped and gearbox felt better. and extra nuatral seemed to disapeer.. in the 02 speedy i thought ide give castrol power semi synth a go.. and no real problems,, but gearbox does feel a bit clunky and sometimes misses a gear,, and if im in a high gear coming to a junction and hold my clutch in and roll to a stop.. it dosnt like to change down gears easy if ive let the gearbox stop spinning... holding clutch in too long.. i dont know if its down to the oil as ive not tried it on anything else.. but i think im gonna go back to silkolene semi synth and stick to it as ive never had any problems with that,, just keep trying other oils on the advice of others.

Paul 'the' Bastard:
Halfords do a good range of oils
Have you been in one lately? I went to my local one yesterday & they had f!$% all for bikes compared to what they used to sell. Very limited selection of bike-specific oil
