Hi all

You might be interested in a starting upgrade I a have put on my T595 (97).

I was really worried about the sprag and my bike has always been fairly slow in turning over. However, one night on google and I came up with this upgrade.

Upgrades the wiring for battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter and the negative to engine earth lead and requires tank removal but only took 60 mins to fit - I used shrink wrap to cover the old wires, some was included but not enough. You do NOT need to cut or remove any of the existing loom.

My bike turns over quicker than it ever has and hopefully it will save the sprag and me money in not having to replace it.

Highly recommended - kit available via ebay:

Website is Motoelectric.com

Might save some members money

Low loss (OFHC) copper

$90 is a bit pricey though. You'd get a similar improvement by just doubling up the existing cable.

NB: I seem to remember one of the "service recalls" on my bike when it was under warranty was to replace one of the starter motor connections.

Was this not the case with older models then?

Hi saw this mentioned in the T-Rat email from Triumph Motorcycles the other day. I think the guy is a cheeky f!$%er charging £50 for £15-£20 worth of kit. I'd source it myself from somewhere like my local electrical wholesalers or TLC online and just order 16 or 25 sq mm tails, (even come in the correct colours).

Done the Kawi ones on the Geep and even purchasing a large crimper to do up to 25mm it still only cost me £36.

16 & 25mm crimps. Solder or crimp type, I don't mind Maybe solder ones better now I have my own crimper. Solder type take too much heat. Have to get the plumbing kit out.

OK hear what everybody is saying. All i can say is that it certainly speeds up engine turning by a fair amount - to my mind £47 is a fair price for something you just bolt-on

Jonty - good post, at least it brings the issue to people's attention. Not everyone knows much about electrics ( like me ) so if a kit makes the job easier, its worth the premium price.

I'm no electronics expert but this looks to be a pretty straight forward setup. I would just go to the local hardware store and pick up the necessary pieces to make this myself...

The kit being sold is 4awg which equates to 19sqmm. Unfortunatey the uk market doesn't sell 19mm. Either 16mm stranded or 25mm unless you can get 4awg (american wire gauge) Try to make sure it is tri-rated if using standard electrical cable as it has many fine strands and is flexible instead of stiff with few large strands.

It was posted on here too

http://www.triumphtorque.com/messageboar...

(excuse the photo problem - someone obvioulsy downloaded a bunch of pics from my PhotoBucket account and exceeded the free bandwidth  - pics will be restored at end of next week)

Here's the video that illustrates the difference before & after

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKGfWqwDD...

(I left the bike in gear with side-stand down, clutch disengaged, so it would not start to illustrate the cranking speed)
