I've just bought an Adventurer although it was advertised as a Thunderbird. It has the upswept back mudgaurd, eyebrow tank badges, the long tapered silencers, and stepped seat. What are the other differences?

Larger front wheel.
Different rear subframe.
Engine chrome casings as standard on early models.
"A" on chrome side covers instead of "900"

Quite a simple task to swap the rear sub-frame over and turn it back into a Thunderbird if you wanted.

It has the "A". The previous owner told me he fitted chrome casings. It's 1996. I'm not sure the bars are original they seem a bit high, which is one of the many things I'll be changing.

Not exactly more like the old Goldwing bars (if you remember that far back), wide and highish.

Adventurer (96-98)

There are two styles of seat fitting on the Adventurer, changed at VIN 71698. Mine's a 96 with a VIN of 37kish with the older style but worth checking if you wanted to change it.

The yokes are different. As are the risers. It came with a low bar option which you may still be able to get. Mirrors are square. The kit should include longer stemmed mirrors and a brakeline. wheel size for yours is 18 front 16 rear. Post 99 is 19front, and a lower rear subframe, plus some changes in the rear guard fitting. Square light fitting. Chrome engine covers were accessories. You may well find the steering head angle is different too. Check the wheelbase specs. It is for certain when compared to the TBird Sport. There are four seat options, yours, standard dual, low dual, and a single seat with a bum pad.
Thats about all I can think of. Engine the same except all Adv five speeds whilst later Tbirds six speed..........

Plus, the Adv should have a slightly better resale. They do here anyway

Scratch the comment on the engine covers. They WERE standard chrome

Hmmmmmmmm seats!

The one you have is the King & Queen seat.

Phil - Is the single seat with the bum pad the Hi-Pillion seat? I guess that wasn't Adventurer specific as won't really go with that style of bike?

I know it's available for the TBS.

yokes should be the same, the extra stretch is from the larger diameter front wheel. In the UK Adventurers are worth less than Thunderbirds, about the same value as Legends.

Two pieces, a seat for the rider and a pad for the pillion.
It is listed in the accessories catal form memory

I have the hi pillion, but that was for the TBS. I didn't realise they did it for the Adventurer as well. Forgot the KQ seat. With my Corbin single, I have five. Crazy.
I listed some of the stuff I have picked up for the TBS on another thread to highlight how easy it is to lose your grip on reality. I'm better now though.

I'll try to make a pic of all my Adventurer seats and post it

I've thought of doing that with my TBS seats before but thought I might be seen as sad!

For my three Triumphs I have a total of nine seats, five of which are for the TBS! Actually, I am sad!

I feel so much better knowing I am not alone.
My son, GIXXER Boy, reckons it all goes to the tip when I peg out
