Chizzle d'Chizzledom: Jeezus what a bunch of moaning minnies ... I can't wait for the reaction from you lot to the haul of medals we get on the cycling track and in the pool. Most of you will be watching it and wondering "How the heck do I comment on this without coming across as a hypocrite?" Most will be as excited as the rest of us, just as when it was held elsewhere.
Didn't any of you watch Redgrave win his 5th Gold in Sydney, or see what effect Cathy Freeman had at the same games and not have any sort of reaction to it?
Just wait for Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish in the velodrome ... then tell us you aren't interested.
I was lucky enough to go to the Los Angeles games in 1984 and the atmosphere it generates is fantastic.
Yea, yea, yea, but at what cost? a hundred million £ a medal? Better spend elsewhere I think (and I say this as a cycling fan).
BUT it wouldn't have been spent elsewhere, and certainly not where we would feel it's affect.
In a way we could even be thought of as being lucky to stage the games this year because at least the country has something with the ability to raise people spirits, and Christ alone knows we need something to do that right now ... evidenced by some of the attitudes being demonstrated on here
Anyway, it's a done deal, so you may as well enjoy it as much as you can!
You'll have a f!$%in long wait before you see me getting all excited over any medals the UK gets .... in 57 years I've always felt the same about any sport that doesn't have engines in it ... nothing's changed
I admit to having a passion for drinking .. but I had that before I came up here. In fact, the Scots aren't the heavy drinkers they're made out to be ... they get drunk and behave like animals (much like the rest of the UK) but it only takes half a shandy to kick 'em off. Cheers
I will be going to bed in good spirits - some of the above comments have had the tears rolling down my cheeks, combining extraordinary imagery of then most bizarre kind and general TT curmudgeonliness.
Groucho -you never let me down on this front mate - pmsl at this one and the missus wondered what was the matter with me.
Groucho: "I'd want to see a 4s 100m, a 2 minute mile, a 20 ft high jump, a 1/2 mile javelin....."
f!$%, I'd want to I'd want to go to the games with those sort of records!
Malster: Was I ?
you're probably right ..... consistency has never been my strong suit ...
