You can always get a job in the Jam Butty Mines. PtB knows all about it, however, they used to take the piss about his height.

Don't think anybody would seriously consider moving up north if they're already established in the preferentially financed, Olympic money pit that is Darn Saaaarf.

mum n dad sold up and retired back in the 90s , they lived in blackburn , moved to walney island (barrow in furness) to a new mobile park place , quite nice actually , however 90% of the residents were southeners (retired jailers/school teachers/cops etc) who had sold up down south , banked it and moved north for a cheaper lifestyle , hoping the money would last till they died

actually a nice bloke very intelligent (as was my dad <engineer>) unlike me , he worked on the gt40 project in a high capacity

20 yrs ago , (when i was running opal manta,s ) he would pull out a slide rule and with the back of a fag packet calculate theoretical diff fomulas based on tyre sizes /bhp

My Ex -Boss has just bought a nice place just outside Grange over sands. sold his Grade 2 listed thatched chocolate box cottage down here for a small fortune and now he works from his office at home, with stunning views out over the estuary.

Malster:

No jobs I'm afraid ..

They've shut the mills, the mines, the clog factories, the black pudding works, the whippet breeding kennels, the flat hat factories and the tripe works.

In fairness though, the number of jobs in Northern prisons and abortion clinics are at all an all-time high.

You have to be very alert.
If you are patient enough you may be able to get a "job"

The only jobs going are in high tech industries and you need a high IQ, a good degree, good communication skills and a positive attitude.

So I'm afraid that rules most southern nances out.

Soz .. best stick with sewing sequins on yer pearly queen jackets or selling light bulbs ..
