So I've decided to part with some dosh to buy me a flat screen box for the corner. It will be between 60cm to 68cm (for you imperial users 22 to around 28 inch) size. What sort of things (other than the HD thingy) should I be looking for?
I have noticed many have different Hertz ratings what's all that about then?
It refers to the screen refresh rate - basically the higher the number the better AFAIK. As for LCD v plasma etc - dunno - couldn't even tell you what ours is without going to look (which I'm not about to do!)home entertainment geeks get all wound up about that stuff though - no doubt some will be along shortly . . . .
The higher the hertz rate the less flicker on the screen and fast camera pans are less likely to cause picture 'stuttering'. Get a full HD one as opposed to one that's 'HD ready' as there is a difference between 1080p and 1080i ... especially on a blueray disc.
We have a Vierra Panasonic and a Samsung ... the Samsung occasionally turns itself off and back on again for no reason
Krautophile: ...but surely Plasma is not good for such a smallish one?
I'm looking at the LED backlit jobbies...
Plasma is just one way of doing it ... LED, LCD ... just different ways of tackling the same problem. LED screens are the way forward though, they use a lot less power, are a lot thinner than the others and the contrast ratios shame even plasma tellys.
Its really been a bummer mate - amazing how things all bleedin arrive together !!!
If the JVC totalling folds, I've still got me old 32" Phirrips in the conservatory if it would tide you over? Brill pic, no HD etc, but frankly its good enough - works with SCART - 4 connections, so you have most bases covered. More money tho - as even for free, 160 miles of go-juice would be needed !
Thanks ST.... if SWMBO gets a job sharpish then we'll treat ourselves to a new box fairly soon anyway, otherwise the JVC will see us out... we've had it for nigh on 15 years... I doubt it'll shuffle off it's mortal coil anytime soon
