...as UK importer Phoenix Distribution faces closure.

Arai UK (Phoenix) had no choice but to keep increasing the retail prices. This was mainly due to exchange rates with the Yen. They were well aware that raising prices again and again would cause problems but at the end of the ...day they had to sell them for more than they were paying or they wouldn't have been around for this long. We've already had news that a new distributor is being lined up but there are no more details at present.

This is according to the sportsbikeshop on fb. So who's big enough to pick up the deal?

no simpathy with emm , charging that much lesser "media" advertised , that meet all currant UK specs are are of good quality , are available in the likes of aldi/lidl for £40 , so a few flash graphics , and TV advertizing can raise this to £400 ???

seems someone further down the chain is making a lot of money , as the basic costs for arai , or the less know brand would be the same , if not less for arai ??

yen ? china or japan ? but probably made in a third world country? (for pennies)

The 'Yuan' (Renminbi) is China. The 'Yen' is Japan.

I love Arai's and have worn an RX7 Corsair for the last 5 years. I have just replaced it last month with a HJC R-PHA10 Ben Spies rep simply because i can't afford the £650-£700 asking price for the new RX7 GP! I do like the HJC though:thumbup:

The Japanese exchange rate yen against the euro is causing us some issues and has been for some time.

And my (japanese) company global turnover is way bigger than Arai's
May well be some truth to the story

Profit margin on Arais is a lot less than you'd expect. Percentage-wise it's much lower than the markup on lesser brands. Their retail prices are scarily expensive now though.

I think they will be hard pushed to get anyone to sign up in the current climate -
of course it depends on the distrubitors contract but I would say whoever steps forward can nogotiate a whole new deal

 They'll have the benefit of negotiating a new deal with pricing also probably allowing for a stipulated exchange rate fluctuation band

I wouldn't think Phoenix Distribution did such a bad job but the current business climate caught them out. Arai is too big a brand not to have a UK distributor so it will be interesting to see who gets (or has already got) the distribution rights. I would have thought it has a lot of potential.

Damn I hope you can get em in the Uk. I just trashed my open face and need a new one. Tried lots of other makes but they are like goldfish bowls. Too round. The Davida is Useless with glasses. The new AGV one is nice but bloody uncomfortable. So I need a new Arai.
