Well, after a lot of looking around I finally have a route sorted (sort of) with approximate mileages listed DAY 1, Duisberg overnight 250 miles Day 2, 3 dams, stop nearby 180 miles Day 3 & 4, Buchenwald & Colditz, stay 2 nights in/near Colditz 210 miles Day 5, Hofheim for the Waldgeist (big food) 230 miles Day 6 & 7, Nurburg area (same hotel I reckon as it was dead cheap, or the wee one we stopped at) 125 miles Day 8, Ieper 250 miles Day 9, Home. Dates TBA, but we're looking at June to get better weather (Although 16/17th May would be rather apt to visit the dams ) Trying to stay off motorways if possible, but it's not avoidable. To make it less stressful I suggest a whole week away from Saturday to Sunday, with the normal stop in Ieper on the return leg to get an early start. Perhaps even going to Folkstone on the Friday night so as to get an early start or even doing the crossing on the Friday night & stay in Calais. Limiting the trip 10 Bikes as it's a logistical nightmare finding rooms, although I may be batter organising sooner rather than later. So far the list seems to be Me & Mrs F MaxVeg Sir Titty Triple595/Earl(or whatever he is now called) Rob NMTB & the lovely Joni StumpyDave Dave SP3 Phill

i like it already, if we can incorporate a bank holiday that will save on days off but i agree with the may dates, fingers crossed i'll be tiggered up by then too

Are you coming then, Gramps? I mean, you were there when we attacked the dams........................... Last 2 may trips have been a tad moist, we shall see what the general consensus is.

Sounds great to me. For me, the sooner the dates are agreed the better, so that I don't double book anything fwiw : each previous trip, I've overnighted close to Folkstone/Dover, so that there's little or no mileage this side of the channel on day 1. Gives a fresh start on t'other side.
Fretmeister Moaning about bikes, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 61,569 Daytona Super III 02 Jun 2011 20:39
It's a definate "stay in Folkestone/leave early" that's for sure. The only weeks I can't do are the 26th May to 9th June as I have a gig on the 2nd.

Ooh I'm really looking forward to this.

As far as next year is concerned I can "do" any dates. Bank holiday would be a good idea but it would be nice to go a little later so as to be less "moist" The Maidstone TravelLodge was spot on for the money
Rob NMTB Redditch, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 43,435 Sprint ST (05->) 03 Jun 2011 11:29
Ashford's even better, bit closer, and there's a nice pub attached to it The prices seem to vary, year by year. As yet, got no dates booked for next year, so anything's fine by me

Being drunk & having an incredibly sexy bottom is not a good combination on a Frettour tho

I'm going to plump for W/C the 9th June, if everyone is in agreement.

I shall start the planning then. Most hotels won't let you book a 12 month in advance, so I will wait a week or so.

June is fine by me. Might have to take the mesh gear tho. It was bloody warm enough this May. Wonder if the new Tiger & Trophy will be out by then

I hope the Tiger and Trophy don't get made. I can't warrant £10k on a new bike that gets used twice a year.

Sounds great. I don't think the time of year wil make much difference to the weather. Last time I was on a FretTour it rained. The time before, it rained. I've just got back from Barcelona and cut my trip short by a day because of the rain. If I'm going, there's a fair chance it will rain!

You'd probably be safe at the moment. With the amount of training I've done since I snapped my leg I'd struggle to fight my way out of a wet paper bag.

Shall we try a different hotel for the Nurburgring? OK, that one was comfortable and cheap, but was rather lacking in nightlife I've sent an email to the lovely Dutch lady that fancied the pants off me in the Tunnel Guesthouse.
Fretmeister Moaning about bikes, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 61,569 Daytona Super III 15 Jun 2011 13:38
Ooops, date change as that week is beig booked by our erstwhile resident duo of fatties. Probably 2 weeks late, W/C 25th June, going 23rd, or last week of May, W/C 28th, going the 26th.
I'll confirm tonight when I get in, just in case I have pre-booked any gigs.

I don't mind where we stay & will try to fit in any dates you have planned, O Tourmeister

Well, the dates will have to be either the last week of May or last week of June as above. I have no gigs and nobody is on leave from work either. I'm not fussed which week it is, but I guess we should take a vote.
