Well after a couple of years off Alex is back this year, campaining a SV650 in a couple of different classes. We have taken a street bike nad converted it ouselves and are in the process of tuning it. Waiting for a power commander to arrive for the final push.

More details as they come.

Oh, he may well be sapnnering for a mate at the Manx as well (not TT as first reported).

Bike built and running (all work done ourselves) and we have 83.36bhp out of it with 53ftlb of torque which is not bad going for a mildy tuned SV650 motor.

Ported and bored out throttle bodies (stripped of all control gubbins except TPS), Busa pistons and blueprinted. Power commander.

First race next weekend so we shall see.

Good luck Alex:thumbup:

Sounds like 82 bhp isn't pushing your luck so hope all goes well on the mechanical front.

I'm a bit behind but I take it Alex is one of your offspring X-Man.

Yup, my son m8. Actually its getting towards what the crank will take before it cries 'enough' very quickly.

and you have to spend £2K on a billet crank and i can't see that happening any time soon...

Vicar - Have you caught up with PP yet?

I'm surprised by that X-Man as I thought SV engines were very understressed. Have some extra luck for the engine then.

They are..until you get close to 90 rwhp and then the crank just cries enough. standard output being ~70rwhp...I have sat wondering if you could fit a Ducati crank in there somehow..

Ah, the 83 is rear wheel eh. Mrs.droid had a standard SV and it was a fun road bike. Suppose it would need the extra ponies for the track. What's the gearing on the sprockets compared to standard?

1 down on the front and only loses 7mph at the top but has more punch out of the corners,,twisty tracks...leave it standard if its got long straights.

Yes, the which sprocket conundrum is something I couldn't be bothered with. So the Dayto got the usual 17f and 45r and did the whole season like that.

Makes me laugh to see Youtube clips of Jap bikes doing 180mph on straights and still getting round circuits slower than I did.

Any idea how to do the maths, to work out what top speeds sprocket combinations give?

I put in 9500 cos there's no point in reving a stock 595 engine any higher than that...

...or am I mixing up acheiving maximum acceleration with acheiving max speed?

yup, I set the rev limit at 10.500 cos on longer tracks you will get there, try it with 17/47 and 10500 (and it will pull that in top pretty quickly.

Nonetheless, it is always a case of 'cake and eat it' or 'robbing peter to pay paul'.

Less weight and more power is needed (emphasis on the former) and that is difficult to acheive without beer chits.

The Dayto was never going to be competitive.

I'm going to attempt to lighten my bike as much as possible for it's next season.

Wish list as follows: Plan A

1. Lightweight mag wheels 16.5"

2. Run constant loss electrics from smaller battery. (ditch alternator and starter motor)

3. Radically lightweight subframes.

4. Thinking about ditching oil cooler (short circuits only 8-12 laps)

5. Thinking about changing swinging arm to DSSA.

6. Would be nice to find a 147bhp engine.

In the absence of funding: Plan B

Gas earlier and Brake later!

1. Lightweight mag wheels 16.5":thumbup :sad:I had some with slicks..worth 2 secs a lap if you can use them)

2. Run constant loss electrics from smaller battery. (ditch alternator and starter motor) Noooo...

3. Radically lightweight subframes.

4. Thinking about ditching oil cooler (short circuits only 8-12 laps) Nooooo

5. Thinking about changing swinging arm to DSSA.:thumbup:

6. Would be nice to find a 147bhp engine. TBH the frame can't handle it when 'making progress' ; a tuned 128 lump would be better (IMHO)

I have run the bike for a session on a track day without the alternator connected and it didn't give up.

Tuning engines is too expensive.

second hand engine..anything from £450 -600...

Set of later cams, set of later fuel injection a light port and match the throtlle bodies to the head, tuneecu and a couple of hours on the dyno will cost maybe £300 or so and should see you with at least 125 RWHP. Big gains can be had just by tweaking the ignition timing and feuling even on a fairly standard engine.
