Rode the new 'un in the rain for the first time. I do wish the weather woud tdry up. It's fookin'July! Still, it feel really really confidence inspiring in the rain and I still enjoyed the 140 mile ride. Found out the dealer that I traded my Daytona with for the new S3 are selling the 'tona for £1200 more that they gave me for it TR
Andy Newbury, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 16,394 Sprint RS (00-01) 18 Jul 2011 13:55
and you're suprised why, they're hardly gonna sell it at a loss are they ?
TR Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 1,248 Speed Triple 1050 18 Jul 2011 14:04
No, I don't expect them to make a loss. But they've had to do nothing to it (not even clean it) for a 40% margin.... I'm obviously selling the wrong products........ TR
~EARL~ gods country wales, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 82,245 Speed Triple 1050 18 Jul 2011 14:05
chances are though they wont sell it for that, and they have overheads to cover.
andreas east mids, United Kingdom Premier Member Enthusiast 18 Jul 2011 14:28
a local bike dealer here reckons it costs him £700 daily to open the shop door - with business rates etc etc I can well believe it
TR Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 1,248 Speed Triple 1050 18 Jul 2011 15:12
Triple, I understand how it works, I'm in sales too (B2B). We'd be jumping for joy if we could make 40% on a £3K order!. We have overheads too; Office, travel to customer site, shipping, import duty, holding stock, warranty support etc Anyhow, as you say, they've got to sell it first. I could'nt, at £2650. All I got from my MCN adds was people wanting to send me a cheque and arrange a shipper to collect TR

They've got to store it, advertise it, check it over and then provide a warranty once it does sell. And all that's before you pay the staff so that £1200 is not all profit

Decided I'm going to get the rest of the "summer" out of it then sell it and buy something comfier. Time I faced the facts that I am not, and never will be Casey Stoner, and that my knackered old bones need to be less cramped. It's a real shame as I love the bike, but if I can't even do 50 miles before the aches set in then it's a bit pointless

Hence, the selling of my trusty CBR900RR and the recent purchase of the Speed Triple...

well i tried changing the clip ons, then converted it to a speed triple, now looking for a tiger to ease the ride, after that its a kit car
Prilliant03 Plymouth, United Kingdom Posts: 352 Daytona T595 19 Jul 2011 13:55
Sprint ST or an Aprilia Futura for me. Both hugely underated bikes. I like doing big miles but need something that still handles the twisties well. Hard luggage would be nice too. And it must not have a Honda badge on the tank.

as long as you don't need to call the local transit/shuttle company for a ride to the store and back, you're OK...

Are you insane man??? I'm not giving up bikes, and certainly not buying a Hardly Ableson I had an Aprilia until a few months ago when some thieving cnut decided to help himself to it As already posted above, I will be replacing the Daytona with a Sprint ST or an Aprilia Futura. Most likely the Priller. Same RotA x engine and ally frame as the RSV with different injection system and a SSS. Hard bags and a seat to make GoldWing owners green with envy. No pain killers. No trikes. No sidecars.

I had an Aprilia (Tuono).2008. It had a Rotax motor. I was told it was bullet proof. It blew up after only 6500 miles. Conrod let go and destroyed the barrel and piston and head. Aprilia were appalling at supplying spares.(4 months). Read the forums and this is not uncommon with the 990 Rotax motor.

Took it for its first proper run since buying it and getting it fettled. Met a mate of mine at Destination Triumph at Washington Sussex, then up to Billingshurst, A281 towards Guildford, over Hog's Back to Farnham, N. Warnborough, Basingstoke then Kingsclere. Left me mate who was going to Oxford, turned round and came home again. All in the dry and the Roadsmarts now nicely scubbed in.

Sounds like you were incredibly unlucky. I don't personally know of anybody else who has had a catastrophic failure like that. The 990 Rotax engine is famously reliable. Only sprag clutches seem prone to failing but that doesn't take the entire engine out. I've had 2 Falcos and 2 RSVs. Did big mileages on all of them and the only part that ever broke was a (japanese) plug cap. You're very right about the parts supply issues. I was just lucky I never needed any. Having a good dealer nearby makes a massive difference. I guess Triumphs are a bit like that too.

Sat 23rd. Moved the Tiger to gain access to the Super III Took the Super III for an MOT, which, unsurprisingly, passed. Now done 2600 miles, 900 of which in the 3 times I have ridden it since Triumph-Fest last September.

At 6.30am I adjusted the chain as it was somewhat slack. Then went for a 150 mile ride round as many b roads as possible, stopped off at DT Bramley bought some gloves at half price and late cleaned the bike

Hi Blizzard, did you get them replaced on warranty?
Blizzard Coventry, United Kingdom Premier Member Posts: 51,831 Enthusiast 25 Jul 2011 15:15
Yep. The dealer said that there should be no problems getting them replaced. I assume that's only if there isn't an obvious reason for it cracking
Also saw my old STR today as well.
