Animal Mother: Took the front callipers off and greased up the pistons.
So did I! Also did the brake lever mod, filing down the lever at the brake light end. It was the pistons in the calipers that were crudded up that I believe caused my brake lever to become spongy, especially as only one piston per caliper was moving....
Excellent. I bet you're glad you spotted that.
I carried on with the brakes today:
Stripped the front master cylinder, checked the seals and re-greased.
Did the rear master cylinder mod with a freshly serviced master cylinder.
Serviced the rear calliper.
Did the front lever mod.
Took tank and airbox off to check hoses and connections etc.
Blizzard: The Arrows work out cheaper for me, as does the rear brake reservoir
Hi Blizzard, Would you be able to get a discount on arrow accessories (rearsets, brake reservoirs, pipes) for an old friend?
Any dealer will give you 10% if you ask nicely. I paid £675 for my Arrow system (oddly appropriate) when they were £750, just before they went up to £800. (Unfortunately I just missed out on a brand new boxed one BS Bikes were selling for £600 on Ebay).
I'm really tempted by the Gilles rearsets for the super cheap price I can get them for. If I get off my butt and sell my brand new boxed Daytona/Speed Triple Gilles set then I can have them for nowt.
Peppe: I am taking mine for her first service in 1 hour! I feel like I am going to be walking my daughter to the altar...
Possibly the wrong analogy there, lol. So, you're breaking in your daughter gently so she's ready to take a real hammering, lol...
Paul 'the' Bastard: I checked under the dust cover to make sure it's still there Media File
I was gonna do that, but couldn't be arsed going outside.
Phill:
exuptoy: Ade, how much for the Gilles and will they fit the 1998 tona?
Hmm I reckon he will ask for £300 but might be able to come down a little and yea they will fit.
They're part number T01 in titanium colour. The label on the box says Daytona 97-01 & Speed Triple 99-01. I don't know why the difference in years between the two, as far as I know the only difference on the later bikes is the direct lever, which these replace anyway, I was going to put them on my T509 if I resurrected it.
They're brand new and boxed. Retail is £367, make me a (sensible) offer.
Loaded a new tune, went out playing for a couple of hours. came home, balanced the throttle bodies. Replaced the pipes to the IACV with new ones. reset the TPS. thought about giving it a good clean and then couldn't be bothered.
Took her to the dealer for her 500 miles service. Ordered them to put fully synthetic oil instead of the semi the were planning to. (No oil leaking whatsoever: you know who you are if you're reading this.) Borrowed a standard Bonneville it was too weird to ride, especially wearing leathers!
Fitted a carbon fly screen, a new carbon mudguard as I bust the other one with the old disk lock trick and fitted a 1050 carbon sprocket cover, I couldn't find one for the 955 motor so took a gamble...fit is not too bad, just a small gap between sprocket cover and frame. First time I've taken the sprocket cover off, there was about a kilo of road grit in there...not good!!
Just been and bought one of those bright orange disc-lock reminder cables...better late than never eh...??!!

When using my disc lock LP I always fit it to the rear disc - as you approach your bike you see it immediately and therefore don't forget it.
