exuptoy: Took all the bodywork off, tank, airbox, electrix, exhaust, drained all fluids, slackened off the chain ready to lower motor then had to stop due to not having a large enough torx to remove the engine mounts. Start again in the morning if my m8 drops up the torx. Hopefully the other one will be in tomorrow ready for me to get gaskets and oil/filter on Monday morning.
Also found out the engine has 13193 miles on it and had it's 12000 mile service at On yer Triumph in 2007 with 7800 miles on the clock at the time. So, hopefully it should have had the shims checked 5 thou ago. I'll leave that until I know she's a runner and bedded in I suppose.
Before anyone says why did you remove the front fairing and clocks, we'll, I was going to change the idiot light bulbs to find out why I had no oil lamp when the engine went but after removing the clocks and started to remove the wiring from the engine, I found the oil pressure switch wire disconnected at the switch. Ah well, never mind eh.
I didn't realise that was my old bike you f!$%ed up

Honestly tho, I checked the amount of fluid which I drained out today and I had only put in 2 litres since it went but I removed 4 so it wasn't out of oil when the bottom end failed, just a few litres short. Obviously it didn't like my riding style when it went., Maybe due to the number of revs and lean angles it was getting with a low fluid level.
Also when I drained the water it was clear when draining down with a lot of brown stuff in there at the end and in the rad so it obviously never had a proper coolant treatment during it's last service.
exuptoy: I am still guilty as I never checked the fluids after I got it. Really not like me as I usually keep on top of that sort of thing.
Glad I just replaced the oil pressure sensor plug on my bike - before the first one started playing up I just kept an eye on the oil level regularly - still do it's good practice.
there was a cock p on posting i could have fetched it but its a long way to go for a seat lol, hopefully be here this week, we've been in contact so alls good
Adjusted chain, re-filled lubetronic, nudged rear indicators 5mm inboard along the tail-tidy (should allow <better/some> clearance for soft luggage) and swapped a couple of rusty washers for stainless, swapped out some under-length screws.
Little bits at a time, the bike is getting older but better. That'll do for a damp Sunday morning
Got the engine out and only found 1 spacer in the process which was around 3mm thick at the rear mount on the left side. Also found out the engine has been changed at some point to a engine number of 61000 odd which means it was a later engine than the original 58000 odd. Also the left hand top mount on the engine was snapped at the back of the head.. The lower one has been repaired at somepoint as well if you check the pic. So if I re-use this engine after a rebuild in the other bike, I will need to repair the head first. Just to swap over all the ancillaries now then back in on Tuesday.

Put up some more shelves in the garage - you can never have too many and had a bit more of a clearout.
Two reasons; one is to move some of the Triumph bits and pieces I have accumulated and are cluttering up the spare bedroom and two is to move stuff from off, under and around the CCM so that I can get it out easier to ride it. Hardly ride it as can't be bothered/takes too long to move all the stuff.
Missus made a remark about the garage looking better than the house
Bit offside I thought, but then again I am supposed to be working on the house
A lot less noisy than the old engine (probably cos it has oil in it).
I found a dowel floating around inside the cam housing under the rocker cover and don't have any idea where it is from. It looks like one of the dowels which locates the throttle bodies (albeit with a few dents and marks on it).
I did try to turn it over before I had fitted the airbox so it didn't have any signals from the barometric pressure sensor etc and this engine does not need the cam sensor as it has the later exhaust cam so without plugging in Tune ECU, I am not sure if the MIL is on due to the lack of signals earlier or the lack of cam sensor output. I may need to upload a new tune without cam sensor input. Does anyone know which tune this should be? I'll check that tomorrow. But for now I am a happy bunny.
Thanks to Earl and SirTT for the advice when needed and a big shout out for my m8 Mike for the extra pair of hands.
Exucuse the exhaust mounting bracket, I needed to hear the engine not the can!

Rode it work in the stupidly early hours, probably pissed all my neighbours off starting it at 4am
Then rode it home tonight after a 15 hour shift. Was ringing it's nuts off when a sea of brake lights greeted me along the dual carriageway. Plod was there, plodding along
No, new engine!!! Just wired in the oil pressure switch as it was disconnected before. TWATS! Someone else has been partially liable for my downfall. Never mind. All sorted now and better than before.
The old engine was a bodge mind you. Had been changed from the orignal one and had the following faults.
1 A snapped mount which had been welded in two places and had snapped again,
2 A dowel (looks like the TB dowel but had a few more dents/marks in it)found floating in the valve space beneath the rocker cover,
3 No antifreeze and just brown sludgy water in it.
4 No oil pressure wire connected.
and I hadn't checked the oil level which was down to around 2 litres when it let go. Probably did me a favour.
sat and cried over my poor bike not looking forward to the prospect of stripping the engine
need to beg borrow or steal a manual from somewhere can anyone help with that
even better someone wanna help me fix it
