Don't know yet, ordered a new magnetic one so I'll fit that and see.
Hopefully it's not a cracked sump...
I had this problem on mine. I whipped the sump off and it turned out the threads in the drain hole where f!$%ed. It can`t be Helicoiled either due to the design of the drain hole. The drain hole is like a short tube extending up into the sump with cutaways to allow the oil to run out. In the end I got a local machine shop to make a hollow bolt to go in there. The new hollow bolt takes the drain plug and washer, so changing the oil is just the same routine. He also machined flats in the new bolt allowing me to grip it with a spanner, relieving it of stress when I`m tightening the drain plug.

Oh christ, I do hope I don't have to go through all that s!$%!
Glued a cable tie to my throttle tube last night and rode to the Stormy Petrel to test . That mod in conjunction with a smaller front sprocket makes it like a totally different bike , lovin it .
Cruised from Milton Keynes to Edinburgh (yesterday), all A-roads except M1 J15-21a; bloody brilliant this Daytona, hit the A68 at Corbridge and started to think I'd died and gone to biking heaven. That road is just one big rollercoaster, lots of crests which if I wasn't being careful would get both wheels airborne. All I can say is the suspension got a good workout, and handled brilliantly (that's with loaded oxford panniers plus tailpack, which performed brilliantly also and stayed solid on the, ahem, brisk sections).
Kind of nice weather too, which helps though the Michelin RP2's didn't bat an eyelid (if it had them, it wouldn't have batted them anyway).
Rode my Striple to bike night and won Bike of the night mainly because there wasn't another Triumph there. I won a free pizza and shared it with my daughter. We spent over 2 hrs. getting acquainted again after a little miss understanding.

Finally found the suspension settings that suit meAnd the Corbin saddle has just changed the comfort immeasurablyThese two things together have made the bike shear bliss to ride, like all the best bits of all my old bikes rolled into oneMedia File
Fitted new plugs cos it was spitting back when cold, went for a ride to Whiteways cafe (daan Sarf) cured the problem but too many holidaymakers in their cars down here to have any fun. Plus the coppers have got a major downer on us in Sussex. (or maybe just grumpy cos I had to take the missus shopping)!
Started Pulling off Broken bits and deciding how much is too much to spend on her And boxed up the new bits since I wont have the time to put everything on before we move to Texas
Changed the coolant-the 24k service is finally done. Also fitted my new Roxster heated grips ready for the winter. They look just like Oxfords but were only £32 on ebay.

I've fitted hot grips to two previous bikes and had nothing but grief. On a bike which might eat its starter clutch if poked with a dodgy battery, is it worth it?
Bought an engine with the top end bad to marry with my engine with the bottom end bad. See if I can get it ready for Daytona '11.
Paul 'the' Bastard: If you do that won't you just have a completely knackered engine?
I'll use the good bottom end of the bad top end engine and the good top end of the bad bottom end engine. I *think* that this will produce the best result.

A_Morti thanks for the concern and yes it was a thought of mine as well. However, the controller is very sensitive to voltage drops and will switch off as soon as it detects a lower voltage (12.9v I think). Additionally it won't switch on until it has sufficent either. I have this type on both my Blackbird and VFR and had no problems.

Ah, the clever ones with fail-safe, good choice!
Mine have always worked fine, then pretty much as soon as they get wet the control box fails and it begins to leak electricity until one day you come out in the morning or after work, and it won't start. But then they have always been the cheapest ones I could get my mitts on.
