Ian Newham: As well as the date being hijacked from the pagans, so was the tree. Trees were brought inside to provide somewhere warm for the fairies to live (at a time when fairies were feared rather than cute). Holly and Ivy likewise.
erm xmas trees...or really are Fir Trees...are a recent addition to the festivities, and were not adopted by the christian churches..they are only a decoration and are used as such to brighten places up..no other meaning is attched to them...so hardley hijacked from the pagans..its a tree FFS
